Import a DXF profile
Bring a 2D DXF (laser/CAM outline) in as a sketch, then extrude it like any profile.
A 2D DXF — a laser-cut outline, a customer profile — becomes a normal sketch you can extrude.
Steps
- Import ▾ ▸ DXF → sketch in the top bar (or
Ctrl+I), then pick the file. You can also drag the.dxfstraight onto the viewport. - Choose the sketch plane and the file's units.
- Filter by layer when the file mixes cut lines with annotations (e.g. keep
OUTER,INTERIOR). The layer list appears automatically when the file has more than one. - Extrude the imported sketch.
Supported entities: lines, circles, arcs, polylines (including bulge arcs). Text, dimensions and anything else are skipped — and the dialog reports exactly what it skipped, so nothing is lost silently.
Tips
- Inch-unit files: set File units to
inch(the scale of 25.4 is applied for you). - Flat patterns exported from this app round-trip exactly.
- SVG works the same way (Import ▾ ▸ SVG → sketch) for artwork and traced outlines. Curves the sketcher has no exact equivalent for are flattened to line segments, and the dialog says how many.
- You can still ask the AI assistant to import a DXF by pasting its text.
